The maximum grade (10, 15, or 20 points) will be based on the length of your essay as explained on the essay assignment document and the syllabus. For a detailed explanation of how the Canvas grade book (but not your actual grade for the course) will be affected by the variable essay grades, read the “Essay Grades” document under the “Course Resources” module.  When you have finished typing the essay and saved it as a Word document (i.e. with a .doc or .docx file extension) on your computer or storage device, close the document, click on the blue “Submit Assignment” above, and submit your essay following the instructions that will then appear below under “File Upload.” Unicheck will run your essay through its databases and generate a report that allows you and me to see what, if any, passages in your paper are derived from other sources. If you do not cite these sources, then, intentionally or not, you have plagiarized. Needless to say, this tool is designed to encourage academic integrity–that is, that you do your own work, and that when you incorporate primary and/or secondary sources into your writing, you do so through the appropriate use of citations and quotation marks when quoting directly. If you are uncertain about what constitutes plagiarism, this tool should help clarify that for you.
