Description
My background I am the youngest child in my family. I am a new immigrant from Vietnam who moved to the United States 4 years ago under the sponsorship of my grandma. I inherit Vietnamese culture, working hard and obeying parents. I started from zero when I moved to the US. At that time, I could not communicate in English well. I spent one year studying how to read and write in English before applying to college. At the same time, I worked as a cashier at a supermarket to support my family. During working time, I tried to learn English by whispering the English names of all the products I scanned through. I always believed that I could speak and write English fluently in some days; therefore, I accepted to study more but I did not allow language to become the barrier to my dream. Because I was the youngest in the family, I adapted faster, I was the first person to study how to drive in two months to transport my family members to work from early morning to late night. Besides, I had to do most of the paperwork for my parents such as work, insurance, and healthcare. At that time, my English was at the beginner level. I used Google Translator as a dictionary to survive. Not only do I help my parents but also they support me as well. The Vietnamese culture I am most proud of is family values. A united family provides a solid foundation for children to develop ultimately. Although Vietnamese live in different locations in the world and have different cultures and lifestyles, all Vietnamese highlight the importance of family.
