Discussion Directions: (1) Balko and Zinczenko represent opposing sides of the debate on fast food/health problems in the U.S. First, summarize the debate as concisely as you can. Second, explain carefully which side of the debate you fall on and why.   Discussion Boards will be graded in accordance with the following rubric: Score: Timeliness Length Quality  13-15pts Required contributions to the prompt have been submitted by the appropriate times. Initial contribution is a generous paragraph in length (around 100 words). Response(s) to a classmate is/are long enough to explain the reason for the view expressed in the response(s). Initial response comments thoughtfully and in detail, with support for claims and/or reasoning for questions. Connections are made to ideas presented in class. Responses to classmates engage with the viewpoint or discussion presented and build/extend the discussion by sharpening, qualifying, connecting, or redirecting ideas.  10-12pts Required contributions to the prompt have been submitted by the appropriate times. Initial contribution may be shorter than a generous paragraph, but it is sufficiently developed to provide a point of view and a rationale. Response(s) to a classmate explain(s) the reason for the view expressed in the response(s), though it is shorter than the initial contribution. Initial response provides a perspective and at least sketches out a rationale for the claim or the background of a question. Responses to classmates engage with the viewpoint or discussion presented and provides a reply that clarifies what’s been said or asks a question. 0-9pts Only one response has been submitted, or the response(s) have been submitted late. Responses submitted later than the end of the week assigned receive no credit. Initial contribution is underdeveloped (one or two sentences). Response to a classmate is no more than a sentence or two, if that. Initial response and/or response to a classmate are general and superficial, or merely repeat what other classmates are saying in alternate words, suggesting that the writer is only going through the motions of completing the assignment, but not engaging with it.
