Implicit Bias Test Results Reflection Discussion

Make sure to use proper Master’s level grammar and strict APA 7th edition format: “””I was drawn to take the Gender-Career Implicit Association Test (IAT), for I wanted to know my own implicit bias despite my affinity for gender equality of respect and pay in the workforce (Project Implicit [PI], 2011). What I found was that I had a “moderate automatic association for male with career and female with family,” which is the most common result at 32% (PI, 2011). While taking the IAT, I already could tell what my bias was going to be. While I do correlate both men and women with career, it was more difficult for me during the IAT to relate men with family as much as or more than women with family. This is something I was easily able to catch and reflect on. It did lead me to question why family is part of the Gender-Career IAT, and whether the inclusion of family is implicit bias itself. The suggestion of the IAT is that family and career are opposites, and to have a stronger relation to one directly diminishes your relation to the other.  As a woman, can I not associate more with both my family and my career than another man can with either? Stating that a gender is either biased toward career or family states that one cannot be both, and that women need to decrease their attachment to family in order to increase it with career. There are many studies online looking more specifically at the relationship between gender and career in healthcare. Salles et al. (2019) found that healthcare workers and surgeons both have bias toward male with career, as well as bias of men with surgery and women with family medicine. However, García-Montalvo et al.
