Description
Choose one of the essays in this book (current issues 12th edition) and write a rhetorical analysis. In other words, investigate how the author makes his or her argument in order to convince the intended audience. Here are some questions to consider as you plan your analysis: What is the writer’s claim or thesis? Who is the writer’s audience? What is the writer’s purpose? What outcome does the writer want to see? In what ways is the argument based on logos, pathos, or ethos? What is the balance of these appeals? What types of support (evidence) is offered on behalf of the claim? What emotions are evoked by the argument and how? How does the writer establish credibility? Are the writer’s strategies effective in convincing the intended audience? If not, what should the writer have done differently?
