Description

There are two parts of this assignment and you need to finish both two parts. Part One Read the paper: “Grow Up Already! – an OPM3 Primer” Matassa, P. (2006). Grow up already! —An OPM3® primer. Paper presented at PMI® Global Congress 2006—North America, Seattle, WA. Newtown Square, PA: Project Management Institute. (Read a minimum of three pages) https://www.pmi.org/learning/library/grow-up-already-opm3-primer-8108 How would you identify, implement, and govern solutions for the problems associated with complexity, such as exponential growth, high-tech, or technology infrastructure when thinking of: (1) portfolios; (2) programs; and (3) projects? Provide an example of how you, personally, have attacked and solved one problem caused by a lack of technology or infrastructure within your life, education, hobbies, career, or company. What was your “workaround?” What would be your desired improvement to make the task easy to complete within scope, cost and schedule? How does this fit with the quote from Peter Drucker: “A clear, simple, and penetrating theory of the business, rather than intuition, characterizes the truly successful entrepreneur”? Deliverables 1. Please respond to the question with a minimum of 200-250 words. 2. It should include at least one reference from relevant peer-viewed journal articles and/or books or other reputable sources. 3. These sources must be properly cited in APA 7th edition format. Part Two Read the following two posts and replying each of them. Post One Organizational Project Management (OPM) is the associating all the organizational projects to its planned goals (Faifr, 2020). Project complexity is a regular problem that involves many parts with a possibility of interrelations that concern decision making that in the end gives the outcomes. To identify the solutions for the problems associated with complexity in portfolios, programs, and projects is by understanding how complex the problem is. High- tech, exponential growth, and technological infrastructure are the known sources of complexity ( Rolstadås, and Schiefloe, 2017). Therefore, enough resources are required for work to be done on the edge of technology. To implement this solution, Organizational Project Maturity Model (OPM3) is used to govern the state of maturity among the three-domain. The model deals with the OPM assessment to enhance improvement by determining the strength of the OPM infrastructure of the domains of project management. For a successful implementation, enough knowledge should be acquired to enable assessment for comparing OPM infrastructure and hence implementing noted changes. One problem I have attacked and solved in my life due to lack of technology is a job opportunity. The problem of seeking a job by visiting several organizations is long-gone. Most organizations post their advertisements and also job applications online. Therefore, jobs are easily found by browsing through the internet and applying online. Some organizations have also improved their websites and jobs are even done at home rather than visiting the organization. My workaround was looking for opportunities in different websites and applying for the jobs that I qualified for and thus realized that many opportunities are there with improved technology. To improve this task is by having a good connection to the internet for easy access. The relation of this with Peter Drucker is the competencies needed to achieve goals and that OPM associates all the planned goals to achievement. References Faifr, A. (2020). Use of Project Management Maturity Models as an Evaluation Framework for Project Risk Maturity Assessment. In DOKBAT 2020-16th International Bata Conference for Ph. D. Students and Young Researchers. Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Faculty of Management and Economics. Rolstadås, A., & Schiefloe, P. M. (2017). Modeling project complexity. International Journal of Managing Projects in Business. Post Two Organizational Project Management (OPM) is the position of corporate projects to their strategic goals. According to Project Management Institute (2006), “the OPM3® model is a methodology for implementing and improving OPM” (p. 1). It finishes this goal through a five-step iterative aspect cycle that emphasizes OPM assessment and continuous improvement (Project Management Institute, 2006). Now that I have a basic understanding of the topic of discussion. Let me answer some of the questions related to the subject of debate. How would you identify, implement, and govern solutions for the problems associated with complexity, such as exponential growth, high-tech, or technology infrastructure, when thinking of: (1) portfolios; (2) programs; and (3) projects? I would use the OPM3® Cycle to identify, implement, and govern solutions for the problems associated with complexity, such as exponential growth, high-tech, or technology infrastructure when thinking of: (1) portfolios; (2) programs; and (3) projects. It entails a 5 step process. The first action is making an assessment using a useful reference to improve portfolios, programs, and projects. The second action is to determine what best practices are currently implemented by the organization being evaluated in the project, program, and portfolio domains and what stages exist in those best practices (Project Management Institute, 2006). The third action is planning for improvement for particular areas after collecting the necessary information from step 2. The fourth action is to choose the specific enhancements in step 3. The final action is to validate the iterative nature of the OPM3® model. Once the improvements portfolios, programs, and projects are done, exponential growth, high-tech, or technology infrastructure can be resent at the step 2 Maturity Continuum. Provide an example of how you, personally, have attacked and solved one problem caused by a lack of technology or infrastructure within your life, education, hobbies, career, or company. An example of how I attacked and solved one problem was the lack of education infrastructure. When I was an active duty Marine in my early days, it wasn’t easy to go to school or take college classes because of the high deployment rate. However, when I was able to take my first class on base. They had no designated area nor classroom for us to attend the class session. At the time, the professor or teacher was a civilian who worked in off-based. However, he had base accessed. As a young Marine, I knew what time class was supposed to start and end. I analyze the situation. Then I put my thoughts into action. I grabbed a couple of Marines, and we went into the storage room in the building and gathering tables, chairs, and a tent. We set the tent up next to the Education Center waited for the professor to show up. He arrived, and we had a productive class. What was your “workaround?” I had to work around the inclement weather and the lack of available space. What would be your desired improvement to make the task easy to complete within scope, cost, and schedule? My desired improvement to make the task complete within scope, cost, and schedule is to seek higher management approval to establish functional classrooms for Marines to attend all college classes aboard the base. How does this fit with the quote from Peter Drucker: “A clear, simple, and penetrating theory of the business, rather than intuition, characterizes the truly successful entrepreneur”? Peter Drucker’s quote fits because higher management established an Education Center as an institution, weather than a business, and endure the shortcomings of Marine’s education infrastructure which measures the lack of successful leadership and management.
