Learning Objectives:  This assignment is alligned with the following course learning objectives: Demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking. Recognize the relationships between cultural expressions and their contexts. Understand cultural expressions. Interpret and evaluate cultural artifacts and/or their contexts for significance. Understand the cultural significance of [local architectural production].   Instructions: After studying the assigned material on architecture (PPT and summary in Module 1) and Chapter 13 of Getlein’sLiving with Art, research and examine each of the following buildings: 1. Greek Parthenon – Athens 2. Notre Dame – Paris 3. The Dome of the Rock – Jerusalem 4. The Capitol of the United States 5. The Bisbee Building (47 W Forsyth St., Downtown Jacksonville)* 6. The Heydon Burns Library (40 E Adams St, Downtown Jacksonville)* *These two buildings are local.  I encourage you to go visit them personally, considering that they may or may not welcome visitors due to COVID-19 cautionary measures.  Still, even if they are closed to the public, you may see their exterior and take pictures to document yous assignment.    Your discussion must approach the following: Structural system (Per our assigned reading: post and lintel; round arch/vault; pointed arch/vault; dome/corbeling; metal frame, etc.) Material(s) (Per our assigned PPT and reading: adobe, stone, wood, concrete, metal/glass, etc.) Typology – determined by the purpose of the building at the time of construction (religious, government, education, commercial, domestic/residential, civil/infrastructure, etc) What elements do you find most interesting in the building? How do you see the building represents the aesthetics, taste, and values of its time/place of construction? In order to comply with all required approaches, I suggest you make a checklist to make sure they are all discussed in your answer. You do not have to include the checklist in your submission – it is for your personal use.   Format: Your assignment must be submitted in paragraph format, as a .doc document. The work must be submitted single-spaced, Arial or Times New Roman font size 12, and should not exceed 3 pages excluding sources and images. Sources: You must include all bibliographical and electronic sources done for your research at the end of your work. Images: You may include images, but they are not required
