It seems as if every day there is another news story about how individuals or businesses were victimized by primarily identity theft. If you have not been a victim of identity theft, you probably know someone who has been victimized. Research and analyze a recent news story or article on Identity Theft fraud. For this discussion, examine how fraudsters would have implemented the stages of the Identity Theft Cycle to victimize individuals for financial gain and assess how individuals could have protected against becoming a victim of identity theft and online fraud. Provide the link for the story and do not repeat the same story as another classmate. Applying what you have learned in this module about identity theft fraud, discuss the following questions. Research for additional court documents that can help explain the case. What are the facts of the identity theft case? What was the tactic used to obtain the victim’s information (i.e., phishing, skimming devices, stolen documents, etc.)? How was the fraud detected? How could the perpetrators have used the Identity Theft Cycle to perpetrate the fraud? What actions could the victims have taken to protect themselves from being victimized?
