Description
Student Case Study requires 8-10 pages in APA format with an abstract (a.k.a. executive summary). Your separate reference page(s) of authoritative references and illustrataive diagrams or images can be added to make 10-12 pages, so you will probably prepare no less than 7 and no more than 14 pages. I will not deduct points if you have one or two extra pages of meaningful discourse. Quality is more important than quantity. The case or topic that students select must be from this course’s Objectives, topics provided in course materials: lectures and PowerPoint materials. It can include several topics such as comparing two captured US insider spies. It can be a historical overview of a foreign intelligence service (FIS) or a comparison of two or more FIS. It can be a historical study of a Counterintelligence Agency, describing policies, techniques, and procedures. It can also be a thorough report of CI activities in Traitors Among Us (Author Stuart Herrington), the recommended book for this course; or Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy– a Week 12 reference that focuses on trying to find the insider threat–a difficult and resource-intensive effort. Students may use CI-relevant discussion or journal data that is based on authoritative references. I will NOT accept discussions concerning cyber or terrorism concerns/challenges because this course does NOT focus on these topics. All your papers must discuss the foreign policy impact — usually US foreign policy, although the foreign policy of another nation can also be mentioned. For example, concerning many dead Russian emigres in England (2000-2018), the British PM the US, and many European countries, including former Warsaw Pact nations and Ukraine expelled many Russian diplomats. This impacts many foreign policy efforts that involve Russia: e.g. gas exchange, bank transactions, cultural travel, etc. U.S. sanctions freeze Russian financial assets. This means intense research, answering many course objectives fully or partially (e.g. what one or more CI agency(s) did to reveal a spy or insider)
