Hazard: Fire

Description

The paper will be the culminating assignment for the course and be at least 8 pages in length. During Session 1, students will select any hazard (natural, technological, or man-made) and notify me via email of your choice. The paper should demonstrate analysis of the hazard within the context of an organization or a community, explain some of the specific impacts to the organization or community, and discuss strategies for mitigating the effects of the hazard. You should try to address the following: Potential magnitude (Percentage of the community that can be affected) Frequency of Occurrence Seasonal Pattern Areas Likely to be Affected Most Probable Duration Potential Speed of Onset (Probable amount of warning time): Existing Warning Systems: Community Geography Property (including critical facilities) Infrastructure Demographics Response Organizations and Resources Risk Severity  Students are expected to use content from the course materials and other outside research to support any discussion points or strategy development within the paper. A rubric for the paper is posted in the folder for the assignment. Your research and eventual paper will detail how it would impact your community – or another community you want to choose. The paper should not be researching a previous incident involving the hazard although you will want to research previous disasters involving that hazard for ideas of what effects happened.
