Description
“Everyone loves Marineland?” Is there anything morally objectionable in placing large marine mammals, such as whales, on display for entertainment of the public? Discuss this by making reference to readings and lecture materials. Be sure to argue for a normative position and not merely describe. Make sure to take a position and clearly argue for it. Make sure to include all of these following information. 1) What is Marineland? What is the nature of the business? What are the goals of the operations? 2) What animals are kept at Marineland? What is the natural behavior of these animals when not in captivity? 3) What conditions are the animals kept in while in captivity in Marineland? 4) Have there been an historical incidents at this Marine Park (or others) which are relevant to the topic in question? 5) Useful basis for your moral arguments: What would Immanuel Kant say? (do you agree/disagree?) What would Peter Singer say? (Do you agree/disagree?) What would Bonnie Steinbock say? (Do you agree/disagree?) (Do not try to survey all these writers, because length constraints prohibit this possibility) 6) Be sure to ague for a normative position and not merely describe.
