Globalization is the exchange of goods, services, and ideas worldwide. Globalization Faces an Existential Threat Globalization is an excellent opportunity for nations to benefit from working together. Each country has an abundance of resources such as silk, oil, workers, and even land. These nations can make money with their supplies by integrating with other countries. This exchange helps many countries especially developing countries, because it opens up job opportunities and brings cash flow into the country. Many developing countries that see the good in globalization agree to work with American businesses. American companies are greedy for money, raising taxes unexpectedly and taking away other nation’s resources. Once Trump became president, he passed a tariff act to gain more money for America. “The revenue America raised from tariffs, as a share of the value of all imports, was 1.3% in 2015. By October 2018, the latest month for which data are available, it was 2.7%” (Globalisation has faltered, 2019). This tariff harms many countries who depend on trade with America because they can’t afford to stop their international relations. These nations sell their land for American businesses to create bases to sell services and goods such as restaurants or make products such as factories. Unfortunately, these locations not only take land but much of the area’s resources. In India, “Coca-Cola operates 58 water-intensive bottling plants” (Talk, 2019). This access caused many areas of the country to suffer droughts and polluted water. As America becomes greedier, many countries will stop relations with these businesses. With how valuable their nation’s resources are, they could communicate with other countries that are more ethical. Globalization will fall in many areas if it continues to be one-sided, but America has suffered consequences as well. “The interconnection and dependency between countries, a cause of globalization, made the economic and potential public health impact even worse for major countries” (Insights, 2021). Due to Covid-19, many global companies have paused or stopped altogether. Globalization Has Always Been with Us Globalization is always associated with advanced technology, but it has originated far before that. Globalization started once colonies settled down. Many colonies walked or sailed to other areas to trade and exchange goods, services, and ideas. “Primitive divisions of labor, between “hunters” and “shepherds,” grew as villages and trading networks expanded to include wider specializations” (R., 2013). As the population increased, so did land expansion. Expansion caused many citizens to explore and discover other colonies with different resources. Continuation of Globalization Due to the inequalities created worldwide, including the spike in tariffs and unethical performances, bilateral trading will decrease. Multilateral trading forces countries to treat each other equally, keeping each other in check. Although it takes a longer time to negotiate prices with multiple countries, it dramatically impacts economic growth. “The agreements reduce tariffs and make it easier for businesses to import and export” (Amadeo, 2020). Every change needs to be agreed upon with everyone on the team, making it difficult for someone to take advantage. Posr 2 by Orane Palmer  COLLAPSE                 Globalization can be understood almost generally as, international business as it pertains to the exchange of a broad range of goods and services across borders of different countries.  The concept of globalization does expand further than simple commerce.  Assets, patents and intellectual property and general access to variety are supported by globalization and conducting business across country borders is not limited to large corporations.  Globalization has given small businesses options to expand their outreach and influence as well.  It is the ability for many nations and people to come together.                  While Globalization is certainly slowing in growth, I would not suggest it is facing existential threat necessarily.  The core concept of globalization will remain present, but it may grow into something different.  Globalization has increased general wealth inequality by making those with money richer and therefore the ability to control the market more aggressively.  Certain large organizations are controlling the market and limiting options for global influences as they dominate markets across the globe.  It is fair to say globalization will flatline in the sense that it will continue but not necessarily spike or fall in.  The improvement of technology has made globalization more accessible for consumers and business owners and the access to international travel is easier now as well, but this access will eventually reach a plateau because we are already conducting business at such a rapid pace due to this technological connectivity.  There has been a push in recent years to shop locally and support local makers and farmers and support your local economies that has resulted in the decline of globalization, but also the potential “existential threat.”  American consumers are also growing increasingly more focused on fair trade and globalization allows large companies to find loopholes in paying employees fair wages to make the greatest profit.  Eventually countries will become impacted by the moving of jobs from their own countries to other countries and that bottom line to increase profits will be detrimental.  Another detrimental impact of globalization that is causing it to decline is the negative impact commerce has had on carbon emissions and resulting in climate change.  The concern for global warming has put many countries on alert to do better and work harder to protect the environment.  There is no doubt the current pandemic we are currently experiencing is also going to press globalization into decline.                 Globalization has in a theory always been around, but we saw the results in a much slower time frame.  Different countries have always looked to others to share goods, but again with the increase in technology we are seeing this exchange at an incredibly fast rate.  The colonization of the Americas shows the impact and start of early globalization which was a result from the desire for spices and textiles from other countries.  So much of the food we have come to enjoy in our daily life is a result of that early globalization impacting our cultures.  To that end globalization will remain a part of our lives even if it completely alters to a new form of conducting business internationally.
