The essay demonstrates a clear understanding of historical material and the relevant primary sources. The argument is supported by specific evidence, including appropriate quotations, taken from the relevant primary sources. All references to sources, including both direct quotations and paraphrases, are properly documented using the MLA system of in-text citation. The essay is written in a style that conforms to the conventions of standard written English. The essay is typed, double-spaced, and about three pages long, not including the Works Cited page.
