Description
For this assignment, you will need to “visit” a museum, specifically, one of the virtual tours available at the following link (I will provide after.). You will see lots of links on this page, so explore as much as you like! Ultimately you will need to choose one work of art or exhibit to write about. (Links to an external site.) You are visiting this world-class Asian Art Museum on-line, but you will need to write a narrative in which you imagine that you saw the works of art in person. For your first page, describe your visit to the museum in general. How did it feel to experience these works in person, rather than sitting in a classroom, viewing projections? How much of the museum did you get to see? Were there any particular collections, periods, or regions that resonated with you? Was it challenging to engage with the art, or did it help to have some background on what you were looking at? Would you go again (to this museum or others)? Again, this is purely imaginary, as almost ALL the museums and galleries are currently closed, so feel free to have fun with your story. For your second page, please choose one work of art from a period that we’ve studied in class. and write a narrative response. This does not have to be formal, it can be very reflective and personal in tone. Why did you choose this particular work? What does it look like, in detail? How does it affect you? What does it make you think about? How does it convey meaning? What were the historical and cultural conditions under which it was created? The purpose of writing about art in this way is to deepen your experience of it, so be sure to spend some time with it and make thoughtful notes.
