? Reflection memo (2-3 pp.)
? Narrative project (4-5 pp.) Must revise

The portfolio is maybe long but it is not hard and it is due Friday night Feb 22th
I will provide to the tutor files for each of the above requirements, I will try to provide to him step by step. Because if I upload everything the tutor may lost and not follow the instructions.
We must first start revising the two projects to be able to write the reflection memo.
Read the file carefully to get an idea about the whole portfolio And i will help you later step by step Midterm Portfolio
So, what is the portfolio? If you remember from the first week, this is a portfolio-based class,
which means you will receive a single holistic grade on your work instead of individual grades
on your papers.
For the midterm, Ill grade your portfolio, assess your informal writing, and look at your
participation to come up with your grade. Ill send you a grade sheet with your grade as well as
areas on which to improve for the rest of the session. This grade will also be posted on STAR.
However, it is important to understand that this grade has no factor on your final gradethats
entirely separate. This is just a way for you to understand your progress, how I grade, and what
areas you should improve.
For your midterm, you must include, in one document:
A cover sheet
Reflection memo (2-3 pp.)
Narrative project (4-5 pp.)
Profile project (4-5 pp.)
All of these documents except for the memo need to double-spaced. This should give you about
13 total pages (cover page not included). For the reflection, you will be learning a new genre: the
memo. It will be addressed to me. It is less formal than a typical paper in terms of the content,
but I still need to see you engaging with your writing in a way that shows me that you put real
time, thought, and effort into your writing. We will spend more time discussing the reflection
memo and what should be included there next Wednesday. You must have all of these
components in your portfolio in order to receive a passing grade on your portfolio. Any missing
item will automatically result in a failing portfolio grade. A late portfolio will also automatically
result in a failing grade. Please note that the mandatory due date for the midterm portfolio is
FRIDAY, February 22nd
There are two purposes for this assignment. The first is to give you an opportunity to
thinkthrough what youve already learned in the course. You want to have some idea of where
youve been, and where youre doing. Reflection will help you uncover things you know and
identify things to work on.
The second is to give you practice at compiling your portfolio before the final portfolio at the
end of the course. Your final portfolio–where youll be showing me everything you learned–will
determine 70% of your grade. Its important for you to practice putting it together now so that
you can identify any trouble spots and get rid of them before its time to get graded.
The genre that were going to focus on in this project is the reflection memo. Memos are
common documents in professional workplaces. They have a very specific format, and they are
often direct. In other words, they get right to the point.
For the first time this semester, the audience for the portfolio (and the memo) is me.
I have uploaded an example reflection memo to eCampus. Though your narratives and profiles
will be organized differently, the format and organization of these materials should mirror what
has been posted online. You may also consult several online resources to help you with this
portfolio. Purdue OWL is a great resource. If you go to that site and search for memos, youll
find many resources. Another great site is WVUs SpeakWrite website.
Here are some guidelines to help you with this task:
? Include a reflection memo following memo conventions (see the PDF on
? Make thoughtful and thorough comments on the revisions you did make and
the revisions in this portfolio and what you might make for the final portfolio.
? Include both of your completed (and perhaps somewhat revised) narrative
and profile projects.
? Include a Works Cited page for the profile project (the guidelines can be found
on Purdue OWL).
? Your portfolio should include approximately 13 pages of polished writing (2-3
pages for the reflection memo and 4-5 for both the narrative and profile projects).
? Be sure to reference the rubrics in WIP and on the back cover for assessment
Your project should be double-spaced and typed in 12 point, Times New Roman font. Please
include your last name and the page number in the top right hand corner of each page AND this
heading in the center of your first/cover page:
A few things about the midterm portfolio:
You do not have to revise. This is not a requirement for the midterm. But do realize
thatll mean Ill be grading a first (and probably rough) draft. Your portfolio grade will
most likely not be as high as a result.
The reflection is crucial. Show me that you can think critically about yourself as a writer
and thinker. Tell me your writing process. Explain your thoughts to me. Be open and
honest about your work and progress.
I will grade your portfolio according to a rubric that I will email to you. Remember, this
accounts for 70%of your grade, so its crucial that your portfolio is as strong as possible.
