In the novel “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther Greenwood, experiences many of these pressures as she struggles to find her place in the world. Like many college students, Esther is struggling to balance her academic and personal responsibilities and is overwhelmed by the expectations placed on her.
