Early Childhood (0-5) Arts Classroom Rubric EDU – 361 Professor: Brian Hodge-Rice Fall 2018 Total Points Possible = 50 Points Arts Classroom Design Must Include (30 Points total): ❑ The age range of students in your classroom (3 points) o (infant, toddlers, or preschool) ❑ Developmentally appropriate spaces for all the following disciplines of the arts (8 points) o creative dance/movement, drama, music, visual arts, sensory (labeled) ❑ Other developmentally appropriate common class space included as well (8 points) o i.e. tables for eating, science area, cubbies, rug, cots or cribs, sink, etc. (labeled) ❑ Design takes into account the following characteristics: (8 points) o Comfort, softness, safety & health, private and social spaces, order, mobility, and adult dimension (storage, workspace, etc.) ❑ Design can be hand-drawn or computer generated o Must be uniquely your idea and creation ❑ Creativity and clarity (3 points) Typed Explanation Guidelines (20 points total): ❑ 1 – 2 pages typed (2 points) ❑ Explains the design – including: (10 points) o how it’s developmentally appropriate o how it meets the guidelines above o your rationale for the arrangement of the room ❑ A list of the arts materials you’d include in each area (5 points) o (make sure the areas are labeled on your design) ❑ Anything else that can’t be shown in the design drawing can be explained in this short paper. ❑ Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation (3 points) *For full credit it must be uploaded prior to the start of class (by 5:59pm on Tuesday). Anything turned in at 6:00pm or after will be marked late and docked points based on how late it is turned in. *
