Book Review Essay 1: Mazzarella

A review essay is not a book review: while both are evaluative, in writing the former, the goal is to be more evocative, to elaborate on the ways in which the book resonates with other concerns and approaches within a field of inquiry, and to use your knowledge to interrogate and open up the text to be analyzed. These book review assignments are designed to foster your ability to critically read and understand individual chapters in each book as well as in the book as a whole. I am using a “scaffolding approach” which is designed so that you will have identified the key elements of each book over time. Effectively takes an approach that elaborates on the ways in which the Mazzarella book resonates with concerns relevant to gender, sexuality, and media, not attempting to cover each detail in the book, but, rather, organizing the essay around recurrent themes from Mazzarella book, with particular attention to at least 3 of the book chapters. I have already done every chapter’s scaffolding approach, so you need to read through these files and then write the essay. I also uploaded the rubric for you to check the standards.
