Description
You will be writing a historical position paper (1000 words, ~4 pages) that compares and contrasts two (or more) artists, practitioners, or groups from varying time periods. You must develop an argumentative thesis and conduct research (in the library and online) and find support for your argument. You must craft that argument into a coherent paper. The argument you make might adapt claims made in historical literature, might describe a new way of looking at the artists/groups/practitioners, or might synthesize new points entirely based on existing research. We will be doing this in stages. First, look at the table of artists/practitioners/groups from the list below and do preliminary research on a few to get an idea of the landscape. You must write a short 2-5 sentence summary of at least 6 from anywhere in the table. Second, choose two or more from different columns that you would like to compare and contrast and find resources that will support your writing from the library. You may also suggest artists/practitioners/groups outside this matrix with the assistance of your TA. Third, write a title, thesis statement, and outline. Then, write 90% of the paper and bring it to recitation for peer-review. Finally, we will polish up the paper, convert the click-bait title into something less sensational, and turn it in for a Grade.
