Sustainability and Education

We are starting a new unit–SUSTAINABILITY and EDUCATION–many different areas of life are making efforts to integrate sustainability  and environmental concepts: …business, cities,  families, government, and education is  too.  For this Ass. #8, we are going to start  investigating Sustainability in the world of colleges.  Here is what you will be doing…..(please read these directions carefully….) We want to investigate what are some ways colleges integrate sustainability: HOWEVER, we do not want every student to come back with the same college, lol. (I want to avoid everybody picking the first hit on Google)  So what you were going to do is, 1.  pick  one of the 50 states…( I tried this with a lot of the states and it works with all of them)… So pick some random state or maybe some state that you like… let’s not do California… We will be doing it later 2. — to find colleges in a  state, you can do this google search : “_______________ colleges sustainability” — or “_______________ university sustainability” the underline  is where you put in which ever state you want…..I just tried it with  alabama colleges sustainability  (Links to an external site.) ” and it is amazing how much stuff pops up .. 3.   you are going to pick 2 Colleges (or university–which is basically the same thing) in the state you pick….. 4. For each college you are going to write 2-3 paras that summarizes what the college is doing when it comes to sustainability. Here are some questions you can answer:  1. what are they doing for sustainability …what seems to be the vibe of the college when it comes to sustainability .. 2. what programs or majors do they have…. 3. what are they doing to make the campus green or sustainable… 4. are there any clubs,  groups, or organizations that focus on Environmental issues … 5. and most important: does the college have a Sustainability Center? What happens at this place?
