Description
Answer the following question in a short paper of 2 pages (500-600 words). The ideal paper will do two things: accurately describe the viewpoint of the philosopher in question, and clearly state your own opinion of that philosophy. This is not a research paper; you only need to discuss the readings we have done in class and footnotes can be informal. It is encouraged that you quote directly from the text, but not to the exclusion of your own ideas. Late papers will not be accepted without sufficient cause. In “The Matrix”, the villain, Cypher, sells out his friends for a pleasant life in the Matrix . At the end of ‘Inception” Cobb does not wait to see if the totem stops spinning before going off to be with his children. Both men seem to be indifferent to Reality. Is this a tenable position? Can we be indifferent to the problems that skepticism raises, or do we have some obligation to seek out the Real (whatever that is)?
