Description
Throughout Act II Hamlet leaves clues about his sanity and motivations if only the other characters were able to detect them. At II.ii.108-22 Hamlet sends Ophelia a letter which tells her to trust him (“never doubt I love”) which she does not fully understand. He calls Polonius a “fishmonger” (II.ii.172) which is Elizabethan slang for “pimp” and is appropriate given how Polonius is willing to use his daughter for his own gain. Your task: Compose a letter that Ophelia might send back to Hamlet in response and that addresses his behaviour as it is outlined in this Act.
