Advocacy requires action. It is not enough to think about advocating for children or to want to advocate for children, you must DO it! This assignment will allow you to advocate for children by advocating for legislation to protect children and prevent childhood abuse and neglect. Your voice is important and you will write a letter to an elected official to advocate for legislation to protect children from abuse and neglect. Directions The assignment in this unit is to write a letter to a state elected official advocating for legislation to protect children from childhood abuse and neglect. You will use this recommend to guide your advocacy letter as follows: Choose a state elected official to write your letter of advocacy using this resource: USAGov. (n.d.). How to contact your elected officials. https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials Use the template provided to write a letter advocating for support for legislation to prevent childhood abuse and neglect. Address the letter to the chosen state elected official using the template. Introduce yourself and why the topic of preventing abuse and neglect is important. Be sure to refer to the ACES study and provide a reference for the elected official. You want the official to read the ACES report and your letter may lead to a new awareness of the importance of preventing childhood trauma. The body of your letter should include an ACTION the elected official can take to prevent child abuse and neglect. For the sake of this assignment, use this resource. and find examples of state statutes that protect children from childhood trauma. Choose one of these examples and write about the importance of supporting this statute from the state level. Be sure to include three examples describing needed community support and resources for diverse families to prevent childhood trauma. End with a conclusion of why the action of this elected official is so important. Include a salutation with your full name and contact information. Writing Requirements and Assignment Guidelines The assignment should use the letter template and be written in Standard American English. Your assignment should be at least 1–2 pages. Use Arial or Times New Roman 12-point font One reference in APA Style The assignment must be written in Standard English and demonstrate superior organization, including a highly developed viewpoint and purpose. The body of your paper should be written in complete sentences and paragraphs, supporting the focus of the paper with required citations.
