Rationale for Measure: Students will demonstrate knowledge and values of basic concepts and principles on public social welfare policy, social welfare program designs, and the instruments through which they are expressed: governmental organizations, public departments, welfare bureaus and faith-based organizations. One of the major objectives of this course is to enable social work practitioners to conduct an analysis of the policies that affect some aspect of their practice. Thus, the capstone assignment for the semester is the researching and analysis of a major policy that affects the service delivery system of services on a micro, macro, and mezzo social work practices. Determine the percentage of students that attain benchmark for each outcome measure; aggregated across all course sections. Section Content Policy Summary/Brief Select a policy from the list provided on CANVAS. Research your policy, law, bill, on the federal or state website. Who, what, why, and when (SUMMARY)? Policy summary must state the policy name, author, political affiliation (if identified 43-45), and history of the policy. Chapter 4 will help you understand the logistics of the policy. Discuss the role of Social Workers & Policy Makers. Connect the rationales of Policy Advocacy (pg. 65) Skills Needed Policy Advocacy Skills Needed (pg. 17) and detail how to avoid challenges Discuss the social worker's role specifically related to advocating for the policy identified (pg. 4, 16, 28,32, 38, 41, 49, 50, Code of Ethics:(socialworkers.org) Conclusion Where is the policy currently in legislature, federal, state, local, or agency (submitted, stall, in review, sitting in senate, etc). What is needed to advance the policy (connect by with Patterns of Participation pg. 77) and recommendations connecting with the 8 stages of policy advocacy (pg.78) Requirements: APA format, minimum of 15pages no more than 20 pages, with a minimum of 5 references (textbook is accepted as one source).
