For the first grand challenge, do a cursory overview (20% of the assignment):  Read the summary in the attached pdf Write a paragraph (150 – 200 words) about the grand challenge in your own words – if you were going to explain this challenge, the state of the science and engineering, what is yet to be done, and why it has not yet been accomplished, what would you say?  For the second grand challenge, do a deep dive (80% of the assignment):  Read the summary in the attached pdf. Find and read one peer-reviewed article related to the grand challenge, reference it in your summary, and cite it at the end of your summary.  Cite your reference in the document using one of the style guides suggested by the FAMU-FSU COE Librarian:  https://guides.lib.fsu.edu/citations Do not worry about citing the grand challenges document directly, unless you use direct quotes from the document, then be sure to provide a reference with a page number. Write a brief summary (3-4 paragraphs, 500-700 words) that details:  The challenge The state of the science and engineering related to accomplishing the challenge What has yet to be done to accomplish the challenge, when and whether you think it can be “accomplished” The barriers that inhibit the accomplishment of this challenge at the global scale (use our lecture discussion and powerpoint Actions  to help with this)
