Description
Step 1: Select a current event/issue that is a “hot topic” right now (immigration, gun control, reproductive rights, free college tuition, etc). It does not need to be an issue here in the US, but you might find it easier to find multiple sources if it is a local/national topic. Step 2: Locate one article on this topic from a “conservative” website and one from a “liberal” website. (There a fantastic Media Bias Chart that breaks down a large number of new sources along a biased scale as well as a reliability scale.) Although not required, why not find a fair and non-partisan source for comparison as well? Step 3: Using the CRAAP Method, evaluate both articles. You should address each of these for both articles: Currency Relevance Authority, Accuracy Purpose. Step 4: Once you have analyzed both articles, then write up a comparison of them and discuss which article you think is more credible and why. Also, discuss how you might use this evaluation process moving forward both academically and as a citizen. Extra Credit: As you progress through your education and beyond, you need to document and cite sources that you use for research. For extra credit points, create a list of sources you used for research; you can earn more credit if you attempt to cite them in proper MLA or APA format.
