Week 11 Discussion Question

Hope you are all doing well and staying safe. The next two weeks are my favorite topic–leadership. My terminal degree was in Organizational Leadership, and my experience in leadership positions and as a follower of other leaders, has made an impact on how I lead and how I think about leadership. This text, like almost all texts compares and contrasts leadership and management, as if they are two different things. I have come to think of them as being on a continuum, two ends of the same thing. I say this because management positions are in every organizations, in many organizations, the replace the word manager with Lead or Leader.  Also, the evolution of theory was once management theory, but now, even original theories are considered leadership theories. Leadership is not a position, is it about thoughts and actions, its a mindset. There are differences in how we define and view them, but they ae often doing the same jobs. For example, I was in charge of squadron, my counterparts were also in charge of squadrons. However, some of us were more effective, we were leaders, while others  were good at what they did, but they were not as effective, they were managers. So, what do think, are management and leadership two different things or are they two ends of a continuum? Another tings stated about teh two is that you cannot be both a good leader and a good manager. What do you think about this statement?
