Service Guidelines for the Elderly Readings Complete the following: Read the Unit 8 introduction if you have not done so. In the Sue and Sue text, Counseling the Culturally Diverse: Theory and Practice, read the following: Chapter 22, “Counseling Individuals With Disabilities.”  Chapter 24, “Counseling Older Adults.”  Read Smart and Smart’s 2006 article, “Models of Disability: Implications for the Counseling Profession,” from Journal of Counseling and Development, volume 84, issue 1, pages 29–40. Imagine you have been asked to draft guidelines for psychological services for the elderly. Develop two or three guidelines that you would consider important to include. Provide a rationale for each of your recommendations. Services is defined very broadly here, so select services consistent with your degree specialization program. Therapy and psychological assessment, program or other consultation, educational and training services, health psychology or addictions interventions, and so on, are all reasonable and possible here. Then, take information you have learned about one of the racial or ethnic groups discussed in this course, and discuss how the study of elder status in this culture might enhance psychological service guidelines for all elders. Keep your discussion specific to a cultural group of your choosing.
