The videos below demonstrate how to complete each part of the Library Resource Notes file. The file includes a sample outline, note, and Works Cited entry and the spaced where you can add an outline, the notes, and Works Cited entries for each resource. Adding an outline, which some of you will find helpful, is optional: Only notes one through ten and the Works Cited entries are required. Some advice for you while note-taking: Record only one or two quotes from any resource you find. You are integrating great ideas into your notes rather than copying the resource. When you find awesome information, it is difficult to let information go, but doing so will help you focus. Use your outline or keep your thesis in mind to help you distinguish whether the information is worth documenting or not. Keep the direct quotes short. If you find that you need to capture a few sentences, then do, but try to limit direct quotes to a couple of lines or sentences at most. This will help you avoid recording too much information from the resources. For the final paper, you are required to have at least one book, one journal article, one magazine or newspaper article, and one survey, so it would be wise to locate each. When I find resources I want to use, I begin constructing their works cited entries first before I read them. This helps me isolate formulaic acts such as documenting resources from interpretive acts such as note-taking and analyzing. My brain does not have to shift gears as much. Also, if I have most of the documentation information recorded, then I do not need to worry as much about missing a resource or plagiarizing it by omitting one. Finally, I know who my authors are and whether the resource is paginated (has page numbers to record) or not. NOTE: I WILL UPLOAD SAMPLE.
