Introduction: Unless you feel strongly otherwise, your introductory THESIS should assert THOUGHTFULLY in your own words that Sylvia changes for the better as a result of Miss Moore’s “lesson.” DON’T JUST REPEAT “Sylvia changes for the better as a result of Miss Moore’s “lesson.” !!! That would be the OPPOSITE of thoughtful. II. First body paragraph: characterize in detail the “before” Sylvia we meet leading up to her visit of F.A.O. Swartz. III. Second body paragraph: Write a transitional paragraph that discusses Miss Moore as an educator and a person. IV. Keeping a focus on your thesis, describe the children’s experiences in F.A.O. Swartz–use relevant supporting details from story. V. Conclusion: Put into words the “lesson” that Sylvia learns (though Sylvia herself does not put this into words in the story). Finish up your concluding paragraph by discussing the larger significances you find in this story–this is the place to expand on your personal reactions to the story.
