Write an opinion paper no longer than one page, single-spaced, typed on the following question: Do you think that there is a rush by traditional news organizations to report news to the public as quickly as possible due to the increasing competition they face from social media postings from ciitzen reporters and ‘new media’ news outlets that it has led to a watered down of professional responsibility for checking sources and facts of the story? As a news organization, which do you think is more important: (1) reporting the news as quickly as possible or (2) reporting the news as accurately as possible if it takes longer to get the story out? Is a retraction an effective means to remedy mistakes? Please provide “real life” examples or recent news to illustrate your point.
