Watch the movie “Through Deaf Eyes” and answer the following questions

1.     Alexander Graham Bell is often viewed as an American hero. Discuss his contributions to the Deaf community and their causes. Might the Deaf community have a different view of his accomplishments?  2.     Bernard Bragg describes his experience of being left at a residential school for the first time. Discuss why you think parents of deaf children may make the decision to send their children to a residential school.  3.     Historically, give some examples of how Deaf people have been discriminated against.   What about the Deaf discriminating against other groups? 4.     The year after Marlee Matlin won an Oscar for Children of a Lesser God she returned to announce the nominees for another category. What did she do that was considered “offensive” to some in the Deaf community? Do you think this was a fair criticism, why or why not? 5.     The movie gave an excellent account of the DPN movement. Use this question to tell me your thoughts about DPN. Anything that surprised you? What was the most interesting thing about the rally? Do you think the students were right to protest? 6.     Summer Crider talks about her childhood experience of being different than her family and wanting desperately to be connected to their world.
