Description
In Stamped, the authors discuss Gomes Eanes de Zurara, a Portuguese writer whom they label “the first racist”. In Zurara’s writings he provided justification for the African slave trade and helped to shape many racist ideas in the minds of Europeans of his time. Write one paragraph of approximately 8-10 sentences to describe how what we read can influence our view of the world. Focus on what you read in social media, newspapers, online articles, etc… How has what you read helped you to form an opinion on a particular topic? The topic could be about politics, cultural differences, race relations or something else. Choose one area and jot down some ideas: What did you read? How do you think it affected your thinking? Write a clear topic sentence for your paragraph. The topic sentence should guide the rest of the ideas in your paragraph. All the sentences that follow should support the topic sentence logically. Make a list of 2-3 supporting ideas that you can include in this paragraph. Make sure that these ideas relate directly to your topic sentence. You should write at least two sentences to explain each of the 2-3 supporting ideas, so take notes on specific details and examples that will “show” rather than “tell” what you are writing about.
