Description
The instruction is long but I hope you will read it all. I also include 2 essays to rewrite for the presentation. Thank you so much! The Researched Position Presentation offers a way for you to engage with the voices of other authors regarding your topic by further exploring the same issue that you chose for your Issue Proposal and Mapping the Issue paper, developing a point of view toward that issue, and supporting your opinion using a Rogerian style argument. The Researched Position Presentation must be a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation that consist of 8-10 slides (not counting the Works Cited slide). Points will be deducted for presentation with fewer than 8 slides. This presentation will utilize the research and information that you gathered for your Mapping the Issue essay in order to form your own original argument or, in other words, to add your perspective to the others that you’ve found. Your topic will be the same as, or a more specific version of, the topic you used in the Mapping the Issue paper. Your presentation should be guided by a claim of policy or value ( discussed in Chapter 5). This means that your thesis statement should tell your reader whether the issue should be viewed positively or negatively (value) or what you think should be the done about this issue (policy). This presentation will allow you to develop your own ideas, to interpret your sources, and to write a persuasive argument with an unfamiliar, yet interested audience in mind. What do you have to say about what you have read? What aspects/points/angles are missing from your sources? How can you fill in the blanks? What is your contribution to the “conversation”, or what new points, connections, or arguments can you make? Your goal in the Mapping the Issue paper was to remain neutral, but your ultimate goal with the Researched Position Presentation is to persuade your audience to view your chosen issue from your perspective as you argue for a compromise between two or more sides. You will need to use at least eight sources for this presentation, all of which must be included on a Works Cited page (you’ve already identified four sources in the Mapping the Issue paper-use them) as your final slide. The slides should be organized as follows: – Identify your issue for readers, discuss the background, and establish why this issue matters/is significant to society. (1-2 slides) -Craft an arguable thesis statement that proposes a claim of policy or value (1 slide) -Use sources to present effective and well-supported reasons and evidence to argue for your evaluative position(s). Use sources effectively and integrate them smoothly by quoting, summarizing and paraphrasing sources to support points. (1-2 slides) -Explain the issue and neutrally describe at least four perspectives on the issue. (can be taken directly from the mapping the Issue paper) (4 slides) -Give your own opinion on this issue using a Rogerian style argument and find additional sources that support your opinions as well as a source that disagrees with you (1-2 slides) Present your argument in a formal, academic voice. You may use bullet points, but be sure to use complete sentences and compose clear, well-edited writing that is free of proofreading errors and distracting errors of grammar, usage, and style
