Describe:
· research idea
· general approach
· Potential to advance understanding in science & impact on society
Directions: Write a 1-page outline of your NSF Proposal using the following guidelines.
· 1 full page (minimum) of text double-spaced (not including bibliography)
· 1 bibliography with 5 sources (minimum) using Science citation style
· 1 – 3 paragraphs per section (see sections below)
· 12pt font, 1″ margins
· Use Cite-While-You-Write software
Sections:
Background and Rationale: In-depth discussion of your topic, including relevant background info, your purpose and why it’s important
•Research Approach, Questions & Hypothesis: Theoretical rationale for your research, your specific question(s) and specific hypothes(es).
•Study System: Describe details about the ecological system you plan to work in.
•Methods: What methods will you use to test your hypothes(es), and why.
•Intellectual Merit: Potential to advance knowledge (i.e. theoretical contribution)
•Broader Impacts: Potential to contribute to specific, desired societal outcomes
