Description
2 classmates discussion that I need you to do the respond to, just one to two paragraph on each. when you do the respond you should see the similarities from discussion that you did on the last order, their opinion, and whether you agree or not(base on what you’ve wrote on the last order) if this come out as good as the last order I would definitely work with you for the rest of the semester! 🙂 1st classmate discussion: We are currently living in a world where the answer to every question is unknown. History is being made every single day because our country has never experienced anything like this pandemic before. People all over the globe are trying to connect with each other through social media to fill the void of physical human interaction. Anxiety rates rise each day that we go deeper into this hole that is called coronavirus. What will happen to us? When will life get back to normal? Am I going to make it out alive? In the article To Philosophize Is to Learn How to Die by Simon Critchley, the author points out the fact that “to philosophize is to learn how to die.” He believes that we as humans are slaves to the idea of death, that the idea in itself can be paralyzing, and that it would be beneficial to come to terms with it, because it is inevitable. I agree that it is a good idea to accept that at the end of life will always be death. No matter how hard we can try, our paths will one day end. I don’t think that we should constantly be thinking about death as long as we learn to cope with the idea. The article states “Montaigne says that he developed the habit of having death not just in his imagination but constantly in his mouth.” Times are already depressing enough with our new covid world, I believe that instead of consuming the idea of death, we should take life day by day and live it the best we can because we only get one! 2nd classmate discussion: In the article written by Simon Critchley in regards to philosophy, he argues that the role of philosophy is to establish an understanding of death and accepting the anxiety that comes with it. Not just your death, but also the deaths of those around you, such as friends, family, and even strangers. This approach on life can lead to liberation. As stated in the article, “Freedom is only felt truly in the knowledge that our lives are shaped by death’s …” (Critchley 2020). With the mentality that we are finite and death is inevitable, one is able to live more free. One is able to live a life where they are fulfilled and content with ones existence and experiences. This applies to the pandemic due to death being a big factor. So many people have died and as sad as it is more will continue to die from this virus. Being afraid of death and the anxiety around it does not help in any way. What is beneficial is accepting the anxiety and dealing with it so that it becomes something positive. Turning the anxiety into somethin positive is part of Critchley’s argument which I agree with.  Critchley also stated that, “we can try to transform the basic mood of anxiety from something crippling into something enabling and capable of courage”. That is not something easy to do and no one said it would be, but it is better to live fearlessly than with constant anxieties of the what ifs and possibilities of death.
