An Author Study will allow you to explore in-depth the work of a well-known children’s Author. By reading at least three of the Author’s books and learning about the Author’s life, you will make connections between their lives, their work, and the children that are their audience. As an expert on the Author you choose, complete a project that connects to his/her life and relates to children and integrates the information that you have learned this quarter about children’s literature. The steps below describe how you will complete the Author Study. The attached rubric shows the grading criteria (20 points project). 1. Sign up for an Author on Canvas. 【Kate DiCamillo】 ATTENTION: Pick three of the author’s work and send me the Amazon links, I’ll purchase them in kindle versions for you. 【ASAP!!!】 2. Read and study at least 【three】 of the Author’s works paying attention to 【literary elements】. The focus on literary elements may be broad (looking at a different literary element in each of the three books) or specific (looking at the same literary element in each of the selected books). 3. Write a 4-5 page paper in which you, research the author, locate biographical information about the author and information about how and why children relate to the author’s work. Be sure to answer the following: a. What are the major influences in the Author’s work? b. How do events from the Author’s life influence his or her writing? c. How and why do children relate to the Author’s work? d. 【What are the key elements in the Author’s work? You will focus on broad or specific literary elements (characters, plot, setting, theme, point of view)】 *a, b, c (2 pages), d (3 pages) = 5 pages total. 4. Create a Book Trailer video that details one of the author’s books. ATTENTION: I’ll create this book trailer on my own, however, I need you to write a separately 【1 page】 for one of the author’s book.
