Description
The “medicalization of deviance” is the transformation of moral and legal deviance into a medical condition (i.e., deviant children’s behavior is ADHD; deviant sexual behavior [i.e. promiscuity] is now sexoholism/sex addiction; deviant drinking is now alcoholism; deviant eating is now obesity; gambling too much is now gambling addiction; too much social media is “social media addiction”). Do you think that the “medicalization of deviance” is getting out of hand? It is a plausible explanation for behavior or is it an excuse? Explain.
