Assessment The total points for the Applied Business Project will be divided based on the following criteria: – Progress Report I25 points – Final Report: Project Business Report50 points – Communication Logs/Attending Meetings15 points – Submission of Project forms:10 points o Agreement form o Student evaluation o LinkedIn Profile Description of Assessments 1. Progress Report I (25 points) The Progress Report I will indicate the scope of the applied project to be undertaken during the internship. The student should complete the Progress Report with input from both the course academic advisor and the company staff/supervisor. This report should start once the student has been matched with an organization, and should be submitted within one month of starting the agreement. The Progress Report I should follow the following structure: • Title Page o Must include the project title, client/host organization name, student name, student ID, course code and date of submission. • Executive Summary: A one to two page(s) summary introducing the purpose of the project (for example this is a course required for graduation etc.), place and time (for example: state name of company and prospective conduct time of project), and what does this project want to analyze and conclude with (such as analyzing operations of finance department, its major work problems/ challenges, implemented solutions (if available) and any suggested/recommended solutions). • Introduction o Describes the goals and objectives of the project. o Lists at least three student learning outcomes from the syllabus that are being fulfilled by this project. o Provides the name of the organization that the project is taking place for, and briefly introduces the training department and its major functions • Internship Objectives o State and Describe the objectives of all concerned parties of applying/participating in the internship/project: ▪ Student Objectives ▪ University Objectives ▪ Internship organization Objectives • Scope of the Project o Clearly identifies the time and place of implementing the project (For example: Finance department of ABC Company during September – October 2020 to analyze its major problems etc.) • Methodology o This section identifies the methodology that the student will use in order to gather information and data, learn more about the source of the problem and also whether the proposed solutions are appropriate to the organization or not. • Company /Industry Profile or Company Background: o Introduction to the company describing the history of this company in Saudi Arabia and its form of business structure (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, holding etc.) o Description of the nature of the client/host’s activities, size, mission, vision, objectives, financial outlook (if possible), market share, major competitors and organizational chart. o Description –in detail- of the division/department (which could be any financial department of a Bank or financial institution OR the finance/accounting department of a company depending whether the selected organization for the project is a business Company or Financial Institution or a Bank) facing the problem(s): describe all its major work operations- its size ( no of employees)-organizational chart (if available) o The mission, vision, values of the division/department (if available) and its role in achieving the overall objectives of the institution. o Description of the main services /products of the respective department/division and its relations to other departments/divisions. o Within this section, students are highly encouraged to provide a brief analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, as well as the opportunities and threats that it is facing. **For complete Suggested outline of a Business Report: Pls check document posted on BB 2. Final Report: Project Business Report (50%) The students need to submit a formal business report at the end of the Applied Business Project to both the organization (if requested) and the course academic advisor. The report should be in a business report format and should follow the following structure: • Title Page • Executive Summary • Introduction • Internship Objectives • Scope of Project • Methodology • Company/ Industry profile or Company Background • Business Problem(s) & Implemented Solutions (if available) of the selected division/department which is the main scope of the project. In this section, you are requested to o Clearly identify the problem(s) facing the organization in the selected department and its impact on work operations. o Clearly describe all implemented (that is applied if any by the organization) solutions and evaluate whether effective or not in resolving the problem(s) under analysis. • Options Analysis and Recommendations o This section focuses on the identification of appropriate strategies and theories related to problem within the field of study. o Student recommendations should incorporate best practices and knowledge related to the students’ field of study, wherever possible. o The recommendations provided by students need to be consistent with the industry analysis and the needs of the client/host organization. o The student recommendations should be properly explained and justified. o Students must demonstrate evidence of creative and independent thinking. • Limitations: o Students need to identify any constraints and limitations that may have had an impact on the project. o Limitations could include response rate to questionnaires (if any), access to senior managers, sensitivity of information, availability of appropriate market data, time available for the internship and project, etc. o Students also need to identify areas for further research that could have contributed to a better analysis, given the constraints that they faced. • Conclusion o Conclusions should logically flow from the analysis conducted in the report. • Reflections o The student needs to discuss how the Applied Business Project has contributed to the students’ competencies and learnings. o This section also must provide an evaluation of the benefits (strengths and weaknesses of the experience) and suggestions for improvement. o The student should clearly try to show any direct correlation of what experienced in this project (internship) and what has been studied in courses at university • References o A complete list of references using the APA style must be provided. • Appendix o Students need to attach of reference manuals, reports, articles, personal interviews, questionnaires and required forms or documents used in analysis inside the project document. 3. Communication Logs (15%) Students need to follow effective professional communication with the course academic advisor using written communication (via emails) or one-to-one meetings (if needed) and the course scheduled meetings Student should also exhibit effective professional communication, commitment and respect to work tasks and deadlines that has been agreed to with the internship (project) organization. 4. Submission of Internship forms (10%) a. Corporate Form b. Student evaluation Form c.
