PLEASE DO GOOD JOB ON THESE ** This section is designed to help you reflect on what inspired you to become a Crisis Counselor, and to help us evaluate if you’re going to be a good fit for the position. Please take time to reflect on each of the questions below and be sure to write at least 3, complete sentences in response to each question. 1) What prompted you to apply to be a Crisis Counselor with Crisis Text Line? 2) We handle frank, and at times challenging conversations with texters. How have you prepared mentally to discuss things like suicide and self-harm? 3) At Crisis Text Line we take self-care seriously. What does self-care mean to us? It means any activity that allows you to destress, relax, and process difficult emotions. This can include going for a walk, listening to music, journaling, spending time with a friend, or even something simple like focusing on your breathing for 5 minutes. So, what are some ways you manage your own stress on difficult days? 4) Amazing! Thank you, on behalf of our texters! We’ve found that people who sign up for night shifts are able to maintain their commitment if they create a strong plan. Take time and consider an answer to the three questions below to create a strong plan for yourself:  Volunteering at night requires a comfortable space. What space will you use? How can you make it comfortable? Consider all things comfy: pillows, music, clothes, etc.  5) Night shifts require quiet and focus. Consider: what might interrupt you? What expectations can you set with family, work, or others to make sure your volunteer time is a protected time? 6) Night shifts require strong self-care. What can you do before a shift to prepare mentally for supporting people in crisis? What can you do after to help yourself unwind? (This might be a breathing exercise, or something you make, like your favorite snack!)
