Description
Check off each step of your writing as you complete it._
– Complex, strong introduction
– Well developed, underlined thesis statement at end of introduction
-6 to 8 full pages of written text, double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font.
-Works Cited page documenting your research, written according to MLA standards. Consider one full-length book, a variety of print and online sources, videos, youtube (one each of video or youtube maximum), and one interview that you do yourself. Online print research alone is not enough.
-Minimum of 6-8 well selected, relevant, important quotes from different sources – no more than four lines long. Use brackets and ellipses if needed to get to the essence. (See OWL.)
– Introduction to quotes, using signal phrase. The first time you quote from an author, include full name with appositive showing the person’s expertise, describing what makes this person important and worth listening to. (You can also include introductory information in several sentences preceding your quotes.)
– In-text citation for each quote, giving the source in parenthesis with page number(s) or other identifying information.
– Discussion of your quotes to reveal your understanding of the ideas in them and to explain their relevance to your reader.
-Critical thinking and analysis as an ongoing and essential part of your writing.
-Conclusion explaining the significance and relevance of your essay, referring back to and re-enforcing your claim.
