This assignment is designed to allow you to analyze an interest group seeking to

Influence domestic policy at any level of government. I have chosen the Council For

A Livable World, or CWL.Come up with a thesis statement pertaining to campaign financing

and lobbying done.

to achieve desired policy outcomes concerning the US Congress, and to also analyze

the effectiveness of those outcomes.

This is an evidence-based writing assignment. It will require critical thinking and writing

skills to ask an important question, synthesize existing knowledge, collect relevant

evidence and make a compelling argument. Your paper should be organized around at

least four sections: introduction (provide background on your topic, discuss its

importance, explain how this project will advance our understanding of organized

interests); literature review (what has already been written about your topic, that is, how

have other people answered your research question, what are key themes in the literature,

what is missing in the literature; evaluate 3-4 books/articles), analysis (provide

supporting evidence for your argument; identify a counterargument), conclusion (identify

your key findings, possible directions for future research).

Provide background information on the interest group you are studying (that may include

the following): How and why was your organization formed; how does it recruit

members; how does the organization make internal decisions; where does it get money;

how does it spend money. You may email or call the organization directly for

information. Describe and analyze how the interest group makes use of various tools and

constituencies to achieve legislative action/policy objectives. Describe the organization’s

campaign strategy including target audience, message, tactics. Analyze the campaign’s

effectiveness or the likelihood of success in attaining objectives, include reference to at

least one opponent.

I will attach readings that I ask you to use and cite within the paper, chose the most relevant to the topic.

I will also attach research I have done so far to aid you in writing the paper.

Chose 5 or 6 relevant readings that would apply towards answering the research from the screenshots I uploaded.
