Description
Philosophy Applied Today The main theme of this course concerns the construction of a basic argument, the virtues of the Critical thinker, the dangers of the uncritical thinker, and how we can cultivate the former within ourselves and avoid the latter. There is therefore a final project in the class that focuses on philosophy applied critically today. The project will require research (2 sources minimum), and it will depend a great deal on what you have learned throughout the course. In this way, it serves as a take home final exam. What the final project will require, is that you find an example of critical theory today (it can be from a film, music, book, television show, and so forth) and use at least one of the Philosophers from the course (Socrates, Kant, Marcuse, Habermas, Sartre, Beauvoir, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Arendt, or Freire) to analyze and argue why it is an excellent example of critical theory. So essentially what I want is for you to describe in detail both your example of critical theory and the analysis of it with your chosen philosopher. You must give multiple reasons of how it represents critical thinking and how the philosopher enriches your analysis of it. I encourage you to run your topic by me (either before/after class, or via email) It should be at least 6 pages (typed, double spaced, MLA Format). NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED Banned Topics: Abortion, Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty
