ESSAY 1 – 4 pages The History of our Infrastructure Directions: Using the template provided, write a 3-5 page typed essay on the history of the of a famous New York landmark. Select a landmark from the list provided, or choose one of your own. Begin with an introduction about the general value of important landmarks to New Yorkers and visitors. Your introduction’s very last sentence should be a simple thesis statement stating why the landmark you chose is important to New York. After your introduction, you should have: A section describing the construction of the landmark you selected. You should have at least 2 sources. A section describing how the landmark is used today or if it no longer exists, how it was used in the past–be sure to discuss how it is used by both New Yorkers and visitors. You should have at least 2 sources that are different from the first 2 sources you used. A section containing five photographs of the landmark you selected. Each photograph should have a descriptive caption, be re-sized to no more than 250 kb, and remember to put the url in the references section; A conclusion stating your opinion of the future of the landmark you selected or if your landmark no longer exists, the future of that landmark’s memory. Don’t forget: At the very end of your essay, you need to put your references. If you cannot think of a suitable film on your own, you may choose one from the list provided. This essay has been partially written for you. I have written all of the sections relating to Marathon Man. It is up to you to fill in the template for your film. Remember to fill in: The introduction; The landscape of New York; The protagonists; The background characters; Include one still frame photograph from the film you selected. A biography of your chosen figure with at least three sources. Three photographs of your chosen figure. Each photograph should have a descriptive caption, be re-sized to no more than 250 kb, and remember to put the url in the references section Three reasons why your chosen figure is a memorable New Yorker. A conclusion that provides an argument regarding whether or not you personally believe that this public figure will still be considered important in 100 years. Don’t forget: At the very end of your essay, you need to put your references. Don’t forget to include the URLs of the photographs. ESSAY 4 (Due Dec 7th) – 3 pages Remember–a personal essay is a story from your life that shows how you changed and what you learned. There should be a catalyst and a theme. At the bottom of your essay, please include a section that says: The catalyst in my essay is ___________ and the theme of my essay is _________”. This essay (it’s really more of a personal story) should be 2-3 pages double spaced. It should come from your life, but it doesnt need to be ABSOLUTELY true. Your ultimate goal is to show how you changed and demonstrate a theme (lesson) so if you need to add some details, that’s okay. ESSAY 5 (Due Dec 7th) – 3 pages A persuasive essay on any topic.
