These questions deal specifically with Ch 21 as well as the working with evidence section of Ch 21 “Mao’s China”. Please read them before answering these questions.  1. Predominant western thought has viewed Communism as antithetical to democracy and capitalism. Much of its application occurred in the Soviet Union and China. Is there any evidence that Communism was beneficial to these nations?  Why or why not?  Give evidence in support.  2. Based on these sources (noted in ch. 21 above), how would you describe the kind of society that the Chinese Communist Party sought to create in China during Mao’s lifetime? 3. How could you use these sources to define the dramatic changes that transformed China since 1949? How might a traditional Chinese official from the nineteenth century respond to them?
