Description
This project focuses on Chapters 4 and 5, Summarizing data and computing Probabilities. You will be presenting a statistical analysis of a data set of your choosing. You may select from: 8 or more states that are proximal to each other At least 8 counties in MD 8 or more countries from the same part of the world (Africa, Europe, Asia, etc) Choose another meaningful group and select 8 or more members of that group You will need to provide a table listing the locations, population and area of square miles. (5 pts) You will need to determine the mean, median, mode, range, Q1, Q3, Max and Minimum values, and standard deviation for the population and area of your sample. (10 points –1 point for each item) So you will analyze the population and area separately. You will create a separate box and whisker plot for the population and area of the data. (8 pts—2 pts for each of the four displays) You will create a scatterplot including population and area data, deciding which variable is the response variable and which is the explanatory variable. (5 pts) You will select one location from your sample to highlight. Determine which quartile your sample is in for the population and area. (2 pts) Determine the Z value and probability that a randomly selected region would have a lower population or area. (3 pts) Think about the location that you chose to highlight. Offer thoughtful explanations as to why your location has a higher/lower population than the other locations that were sampled. (7 points maximum) You may use Stat crunch or other tool or you may neatly write or draw your tables and graphs. You may work in groups but each individual must turn in their own work. All graphs should be appropriately labeled and scaled. All members of the same group should focus on a different location. Be sure to cite any resource materials.
