Theoretical Orientations

Description

Description TOPIC We have been studying various theoretical orientations that have practical applications in the helping field. These theories of counseling provide structure to help clients organize, apply appropriate treatment, and assess outcome. For this paper, you will select two theoretical orientations from the following list: Psychodynamic Therapy Humanistic Therapy Client-Centered Therapy Gestalt Therapy Cognitive/Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy Solution-Focused Brief therapy Narrative Therapy Write a research paper that compare, contrast, and critique the two methodologies you have chosen. The paper should include: Introduction – introduce and describe the two orientations you have selected. Body of content – focused with supporting sources. A possibility to include here might be what mental health issues each modality is effective in treating as a way to compare and contrast. Alternatively, you might want to discuss how each modality treats clinical issues such as depression, anxiety, etc. differently and compare/contrast them. These are suggestions and you are welcome to come up with other ways to compare/contrast/critique the two modalities. Conclusion – summarize your findings and include a reflection on how this research has impacted you. The reflection may be about your personal feelings towards each of the orientation, the one that resonates with you based on your own experience with the modality, or perhaps your desire to practice it one day. References – list all references according to APA style. Please pay attention to spelling and grammar. It should be written in your own words, and properly cited to avoid plagiarism.  The paper is due by Wednesday November 25th at 11:59pm. Five points will be deducted for EACH day the paper is late. GUIDELINES Your paper should be 4-6 pages in length (not inclusive of reference page), typed, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, page numbers, and 12-point, Times-New-Roman font. Please include a reference page and list your references according to APA style. You must cite at least three peer-reviewed journal articles to support your findings. In addition you may add other in-class readings, or credible sources you find on your own to serve as evidence in support of your argument. Examples of credible sources are scholarly articles, books, or websites ending in “.gov” or “.edu.” Followed the rubric that is attached. You will be graded according to the criteria on the rubric. TIPS FOR WRITING Direct your essay to an intelligent and educated audience who have not had access to this information. This means that you must fully define and explain all new terms and concepts without dwelling on them. You want to leave enough space to show the reader your comparisons, contrasts, and critiques of the two theories. Aim for clarity, simplicity, and brevity. Try to avoid repetitiveness of message by saying the same thing in as little words as possible to keep it simple and clear. Being verbose and wordy may create more clutter and confusion for the reader. Please read over your paper several times and – Revise. Revise. Revise. Even the best writers make mistakes so take the effort to review and revise to avoid carelessness. Reading your paper aloud can be a great revision technique. If you need help with writing, language, or grammar skills, please contact the writing center with a rough draft of your essays and enough time to make revisions.
