Description
For this essay you are to identify the three major texts you are going to discuss in your final exam essay (Illiad, Gilamesh and Beuwolf) You must provide sentences arguing why each of the three texts you’ve chosen are valuable to us as modern-day readers. What knowledge of humanity do these texts impart to us? What lessons do they provide? What does that knowledge or lesson matter to us today? I encourage you to think in terms of the critical literary concepts we’ve applied to each text. For very brief example, Beowulf teaches us about the colonial process of “othering.” Gilgamesh illustrates that homosexuality has a deeply-rooted space in history with differing representations. The Iliad shows us the intense cultural struggle of the ancient Grecians in their fate-based religion.
