One major internal environmental influence that affects gene expression is gender, as is the case with sex-influenced and sex-limited traits. Similarly, drugs, chemicals, temperature, and light are among the external environmental factors that can determine which genes are turned on and off, thereby influencing the way an organism develops and functions, (Lobo, 2018, para 1). My case assignment was done on Multiple Sclerosis.  As their is a genetic predisposition to the condition, it is interesting to find out that the disease does not actually have a hereditary transmission, but the genetic cause is thought to be triggered by the exposure to a virus, or an environmental factor.  I have never thought of a virus as being environmental, but obviously it is present in the environment and that transmitted to the individual person.  In MS, it is thought that the different types of the herpes virus and the Epstein Barr virus may set off the genetic component.  Other environmental factors thought to influence the possible outcome of MS is lack of vitamin D, decreased exposure to sunlight, smoking, and obesity.  There is also evidence that geographical location may result in clusters of MS disease (NIoEHS, 2020). Many environmental factors influence genetics.  For example, men and women can be predisposed to develop certain conditions solely due to their age or sex.  Lifestyle can have a dramatic effect, drugs and chemicals can cause mutations and activation of genetic abnormalities, and temperature and light can be a huge reason for alterations in genetics.   References: Lobo, I.
