Each response should: ·         Be at least 50 words in length and include more than one’s agreement or disagreement with another student’s post ·         React to the classmate’s post and demonstrate higher-order thinking (challenge, connect, suggest, question, or expand)   ASSIGNMENT 1 Historians have changed their views over the years on who was to blame so it looks like both the United States and the Soviet Union bear some responsibility for the Cold War. At the Potsdam Conference Truman refused to give Stalin their technology for the atomic bomb and Stalin became suspicious of United Sates. Stalin took over some eastern European countries and started installing communist governments which annoyed Truman. Truman did not like communism, and Stalin did not like capitalism. Stalin agreed to a free election in Poland at the Yalta agreement, but he had no intention of letting it happen because Poland might have turned against him and communism. Truman did not trust Stalin because he saw communism growing in Europe and he wanted containment; he did not want it to continue spreading. Stalin was installing control by building a communist border between the Soviet Union and western Europe. Tension, anger, suspicion, and distrust continued to grow between both leaders of the Soviet Union and the United States which led to the Cold War.   ASSIGNMENT 2 The Cold War was a time characterized by a sense of enmity and suspicion between two powerful countries, the Soviet Union and the U.S. Notably, there has been a huge debate  in regard to  who between the two nations bears the primary responsibility  for the cold war. Some historians believe the Soviet Union bears the primary responsibility. This because the nation endeavored to force its ideologies on the rest of the world. Before the 1970’s western writers insisted that the Soviet Union tried to force its communist ideologies thus causing the cold war. (BBC, N.d). On the other hand, certain historians were adamant that the Americans were responsible for the cold war. The general idea centered on the aspect of capitalism.  William Appleman was of the view that America was to blame for the war, his counterparts cemented this idea, in that, America was looking to ensure that countries embraced capitalism in a bid to keep American trade going on (BBC, N.d).  Looking, at both sides of the debate, it is safe to say that none of the countries is more responsible for the war than the other. This is because the war was a clear case of a misunderstanding primarily driven by fears among the involved nations    Reference BBC.
